The Philadelphia Flyers have some great young offensive talent on their roster. It was evident this season and into their playoff run. They have the likes of Tyson Foerster (24), Porter Martone (19), Matvei Michkov (21), and Denver Barkey (21). All of whom are going to be great NHL players for years to come.
That said, they are lacking a veteran scorer in their top six. Although some may argue that it's not important, we've seen how useful it can be with the Anaheim Ducks and Chris Krieder. For the Flyers, they don't need to go down the trade route. Instead, they should target Anthony Mantha, who could fit that role perfectly.
Anthony Mantha would be an ideal target for the Flyers
Mantha, 31, has to be near the top of Daniel Briere's target list. Last season, with their interstate rival, the Pittsburgh Penguins, he had 33 goals and 31 assists for 64 points. If Philadelphia could add that into their top six, especially on the wing, it would make them a much deeper team.
The Flyers do have the cap space to make the deal work. Right now, they have $32 million in cap space, although they do have other work to do. They could afford to offer somewhere in the $6-7 million range. Given Mantha's age, a contract that pays $32 million over four years would likely be the sweet spot.
In terms of roster fit, adding Mantha would give the Flyers the ability to move Porter Martone or Owen Tippett down a line. Which would make them a deeper team.
Depending on what Rick Tocchet wanted to do, he could go with an experienced line of Mantha, Christian Dvorak, and Travis Konecny. Or, opt to put Mantha with Trevor Zegras and Martone to add some size to the line.
Regardless, if Mantha can continue to play at the level he did a season ago, it would be a great roster addition for Briere and the Flyers.
